KB International LLC was originally founded as KB Technologies Ltd in 1992 with K. Gifford Goodhue, Jr. and Kenneth Goodhue as its principal partners.  In 2003 KB International LLC acquired 100% of KB Technologies interests in the business. Gif Goodhue, with many years experience in the chemical industry was an expert in polymer systems used in the oilfield and more particularly drilling, saw a need for a better technology within the geoconstruction industry which was primarily using bentonite and ill-suited biolpolymers or liquid synthetic polymers.

Ken Goodhue, an executive in the chemical industry, brought to the company thirty years of domestic and international business experience.  He guided the company's strategic move into the domestic marketplace and its rapid expansion into Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia and Latin America.

To meet the needs of the geoconstruction industry, KB patented a new polymer system.  The KB system was created around a primary granular synthetic polymer, SlurryPro CDP.  The system was run at much higher viscosities than any previous technology and in testing at the University of Houston proved superior to all conventional slurry technology including bentonite in excavation stabilization and perimeter load sheer development.  From these test results interest was generated within the U.S. Federal Department of Highways and a full scale load test program was carried out to confirm the University findings.

In creating the SlurryPro System, KB recognized that one base product would not meet all geotechnical environments.  Therefore additional products were developed for addition to the base system which would create specific performance enhancements in specific geotechnical conditions.  These additives include ProTek-100 which is critical in excavating in seawater conditions, SlurryPro LA-1 and SlurryPro MPA which increase the membrane formation at the excavation sidewall to increase fluid loss control, and KobbleBlok which assists in plugging porous soils.

While KB initial efforts were in the United States and particularly on the West Coast where it quickly gained CalTrans approval for the SlurryPro System, KB was attracted to the building boom in Southeast Asia. KB's products and engineers played a key role in such major projects as the Bangkok Light Rail System, Taiwan High Speed Rail, Kuala Lumpur Light Rail System, Seletar Water Works Facility, Ampang Tower, Plaza Rykat, Bajaya Star City, and Singapore Port Expansion.  Positive experience with KB led European design and engineering firms and contractors to bring KB to Europe to work on the ten mile long Tagus River Bridge in Lisbon and later the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in the UK.

Meanwhile domestically, KB gained a major role on the 'Big Dig' in Boston, as it supplied Modern Obayashi on sections of the Central Artery Project for use in diaphragm walling using both grabs and hydro-cutters.  Apart from KB's time supporting Modern Obayashi on wall projects we played a major role with virtually all major piling or drilled shaft contractors on the Artery.

KB continues to invest considerable time and resources in R&D to further the interests of the geoconstruction industry.  Today KB is active worldwide and is recognized as the leader in synthetic geotechnical excavation and stabilization fluids.
