Product: ProTek-100®

Physical Data:

Appearance: Clear to yellow liquid

Odor: No Odor

pH: 13.8 to 14.0

Freeze Point: 40°F

Specific Gravity: 1.01 - 1.02 (Water = 1.0)

Description & Function:

ProTek®-100 acts to insolublize all hardness, iron, magnesium, calcium, etc. from both make-up water and ground water. ProTek 100 additionally functions to rejuvenate polymer (SlurryPro® CDP, LA-1 and SlurryShield®) which has been damaged by extreme carbonate alkalinity, seawater, or cation contamination. This dramatically lowers the refreshment dosages of polymer in contaminated systems as well as corrects contaminated systems.

General Application Instructions:

ProTek 100 is used to enhance KB’s synthetic stabilization fluid’s effectiveness. The general guidelines for applying ProTek 100 are to add the product slowly in 2 to 5 gallon or 7.5 to 19 liter increments into the fresh slurry or recycled slurry until the pH reaches a level of 11 to 12 as read using proper pH indicator strips with a minimum of 4 color bands. Once the fluid is at a pH of 11 to 12 the slurry is ready for use provided all other required KB SlurryPro materials have been properly added and mixed into the slurry and it meets the recommended Marsh funnel viscosity and specific gravity ranges. If hard water or seawater is used as the slurry make-up water it should be pretreated with ProTek-100 to a pH of 11.0 to 12.0 prior to the addition of KB's polymers including SlurryPro CDP and LA-1.

The pH of the slurry in the excavation must be checked on a frequent basis as ProTek is consumed as excavation progresses. It is best to check the pH every couple of meters or several feet of excavation progression. Additionally, the pH should be checked if the slurry appears to be thinning in viscosity or fluid loss increases within the excavation. ProTek 100 may be applied by pouring directly into the slurry either at the excavation or at the slurry plant.

ProTek 100 is corrosive in nature so the appropriate precautions should be taken to avoid getting this material on your skin or in your eyes. First signs of skin contact are itching or irritation. If this occurs, flush affected area with water for several minutes. If irritation persists get medical attention. If ProTek contacts eyes flush with water immediately and seek medical attention for hydroxyl contact. See MSDS sheet for more detailed information.

When excavating more challenging formations certain of KB International's System additives will increase both slurry and load bearing performance. The more challenging the formation type the more requirements for various SlurryPro Specialty Additives.

Unusual site conditions may arise during actual excavation, in which case the recommendations from KB technical personnel must always be followed.

Special Operational Precautions and Instructions:

The specific gravity range for the slurry should be maintained from 1.01 to 1.04 under normal operating conditions. If low hydrostatic conditions are encountered where the water table is less than 3 meters (10 feet) beneath the slurry level, the specifi c gravity of the slurry should be increased as required using WeightIt or a combination of WeightIt™ and SandSeal™ to raise the slurry S.G. accordingly.

Due to the unique characteristics of a KB Earth Stabilization System as compared to bentonite, several key operational procedures should be modified from bentonite systems. These modifications will have a major impact on the overall effectiveness and successful use of KB International's Earth Stabilization Systems. For smaller projects, please consult KB International's "General Operating, Product Addition and Testing Procedures." For larger or more complicated projects, please contact KB International for specific project planning.

Packaging:

ProTek-100 is available in: 20 liter / 5 gallon resealable plastic pails (60 lbs.)
