Description & Function:

InstaFreeze® is a clear heavy liquid used to converting the soft-grouting effect of a SlurryPro® or SlurryShield® membrane in low cohesion soils to a more persistent and stronger chemical grout, thereby increasing soil stability even in the most challenging of soils.

General Application Instructions:

InstaFreeze is a specialized synthetic grouting additive for use in the SlurryPro and SlurryShield systems. InstaFreeze works in conjunction with the KB's Vinyl Systems to create a polymeric grout virtually instantaneously within the sidewall of an excavation. This grouting action can be accelerated by the immediate follow-up addition of InstaFreeze C-2. In order for the InstaFreeze system to function properly the excavation must be filled with KB’s SlurryPro System as InstaFreeze reacts with the SlurryPro or SlurryShield membrane and the soil at the formation-excavation interface to yield a synthetic grouting effect thereby stabilizing virtually cohesionless soils.

The effects of InstaFreeze can be controlled for total solidification and grouting of the excavation sidewalls or for spot solidification of a specific area within the excavation. Spot solidification can be very beneficial when obstructions are encountered or utilities are broken causing the loss of slurry. The general guidelines for adding InstaFreeze are to add the product directly to the slurry in the excavation until the desired effects are achieved. For spot addition, InstaFreeze should be applied directly to the excavation in 15 to 50 gallon or 57 to 190 liter increments with the digging tool placed in the excavation at the desired point of application. The tool should be either counter rotating or slightly raised and lowered within the excavation adjacent to the desired point of treatment during the addition of the InstaFreeze. This will assist to delivering the InstaFreeze to the sidewall at the desired location.

As InstaFreeze does not contain reactive mineral colloids there will not be degradation to skin friction and rebar bonding values.

When excavating more challenging formations, KB International's System additives including Instafreeze should be utilized in combination with a SlurryPro or SlurryShield system to increase slurry stabilization performance. The more challenging the formation type the more requirements for various SlurryPro Specialty Additives.

Whenever questions arise concerning proper slurry chemistry or proper product application please consult a KB engineer.

Special Operational Precautions and Instructions:

Due to the unique characteristics of a KB Earth Stabilization System as compared to bentonite, several key operational procedures should be modified from bentonite systems. These modifications will have a major impact on the overall effectiveness and successful use of KB International's Earth Stabilization Systems. For smaller projects, please consult KB International's "General Operating, Product Addition and Testing Procedures." For larger or more complicated projects, please contact KB International for specific project planning.

Packaging:

InstaFreeze is available in: 20 liter / 5 gallon resealable plastic pails (60 lbs.)
