Golden Ears Bridge

The Golden Ears Bridge was a project that was initiated for the traffic of the Vancouver Olympics of 2010. It is a 1 kilometer six lane bridge across the Fraser  River.  The project was awarded to a joint venture between CH2M Hill and Bilfinger Berger. KB International was brought in by Bilfinger Berger in 2006 for both our slurry products and our technical support during the drilling in the Fraser River.  The Fraser River is a sensitive environment as it is a spawning area for salmon.  The Golden Ears Bridge opened to traffic on June 16, 2009.

The first step in the building of the actual bridge was the drilling of piles in the Fraser River.  This was done using two barges, one for the slurry plant and one for the drill.
