SlurryPRO CDP System

SlurryPRO CDP System

SlurryPRO CDP- SlurryPRO CDP serves as KB’s primary base fluid and viscosifying agent. This polymer is specifically designed to perform in a variety of soil and water conditions. This system forms a synthetic membrane on the sidewalls during excavation, which controls fluid loss and provides excavation stability. The SlurryPRO CDP membrane remains a consistent thickness over time and is rapidly removed by the concrete during placement. This produces excellent skin friction by providing a clean surface for the soil/concrete interface.

SlurrySMART

SlurrySMART

SlurrySMART- SlurrySMART combines a standard dosage of the Enhanced System (SlurryPRO CDP, EnhancIT 100, and EnhancIT 200) into one package to perform in a variety of soil conditions. SlurrySMART forms a synthetic membrane on the sidewalls during excavation, which controls fluid loss and provides excavation stability. The SlurrySMART membrane produces excellent skin friction and does not build on itself in contrast to bentonite, which creates a thicker filter cake over time that is difficult to remove. The elimination of multiple additives simplifies application while gaining significant improvement in side wall stabilization, fluid loss control, and wall quality.

CoreSMART

CoreSMART

CoreSMART- CoreSMART takes KB’s SMART polymer technology and combines into a single bag for use as a mineral coring fluid or slurry. The fluid envelops the surface of the sample as it is being cut with a protective polymeric shield. Immediately upon forming, the shield is interwoven with a network of polymer filaments around the sample, imparting strength and durability. This network of filaments repels water, ensuring the sample is not deteriorated or washed away throughout the coring and retrieval process. The result is a near pristine core when exposed on the surface. CoreSMART solves core recovery issues, is high temperature stable, keeps clays from swelling, reduces torque and rod chatter, and improves the bit life for increased penetration rates.

PolyCUT

PolyCUT

PolyCUT can be used by itself as a complete fluid with cutters or with the HydroCUT Additives. It is especially effective when used in a saltwater environment. The PolyCUT technology was specifically designed to build viscosity and control fluid loss in the presence of multiple contaminants including saltwater and marine clay. PolyCUT also works to control clay and shale buildup on/or gumming of the cutting drums and teeth of hydromills. By keeping the wheels and teeth clean, higher production rates can be achieved. PolyCUT, in conjunction with its associated additives, helps control the creation of fines by encasing the clay and shale cuttings, keeping them in larger pieces as they come off the cutting face. This keeps the slurry mobile and easy to pump allowing for increased production rates to be maintained. In high silt soils, PolyCUT maintains its viscosity thereby maintaining a highly mobile and readily pumpable fluid resulting in higher excavation rates.

As the PolyCUT is returned from the panel to the plant, the cuttings are typically removed by the hydro-cyclones and the shakers with such efficiency that the resulting slurry is within retained solids, or density specifications. At this point, the recovered slurry only requires mild augmentation with fresh PolyCUT and any related additives to restore the fluid to specification for immediate reuse. This is typically achieved in a continuous loop without interruption to slurry circulation or the mill or cutter’s excavation rates. The use of PolyCUT allows for the excavation of soils containing soft and/or moist clays, shales, mudstone, fine sandstone, tills, and silts. Dosage ranges between 0.5 to 5.0 kg per cubic meter of water depending on soil and water conditions and if it is used independently of other additives.

Additives

Additives

KB International has a variety of additives that may be necessary for your drilling or cutter project. Your KB representative can provide you with the additives necessary for the specific soil formations anticipated. Below is a list of KB polymer system additives.

EnhancIT 100-  EnhancIT 100 is a water-soluble, light tan, free-flowing powdered material. The EnhancIT 100 is the primary fluid loss additive for the Enhanced System and assists in gel membrane formation.

EnhancIT 200- EnhancIT 200 is a water-soluble, light tan, free-flowing powdered material. The EnhancIT 200 is the primary solids control additive for the Enhanced System and assists in gel membrane formation.

SlurryPRO MPA– SlurryPRO MPA is a synthetic polymer in liquid form, which functions to form a more tenacious and less permeable polymeric membrane at and within the formation interface. It also promotes a soft grouting effect within the membrane area in porous soils. MPA also functions within KB Systems to assist in dropping light suspended solids from the slurry.

ProTEK 100- ProTek-100 acts to chelate all hardness, iron, magnesium, calcium, etc. from both make-up water and groundwater. ProTek 100 additionally functions to rejuvenate polymer that has been damaged by extreme carbonate alkalinity, seawater, or cationic contamination. This dramatically lowers the refreshment dosages of polymer in contaminated systems and also corrects contaminated systems.

InstaFREEZE- InstaFREEZE is a clear heavy liquid used to converting the soft-grouting effect of a SlurryPro membrane in low cohesion soils to a more persistent and stronger chemical grout, thereby increasing soil stability even in the most challenging of soils.

ImPAC- ImPac is a specialty polymer in dry form, which functions to increase the strength of the fluid membranes soft grout attributes in low cohesion soils. It also assists in controlling fluid loss by strengthening the membrane. ImPac may also be made into a low concentration liquid to assist with rapid sedimentation of suspended fines from the slurry.

KobbleBLOK- KobbleBLOK is a specialty polymer, which rapidly swells to form various size deformable globules. These polymeric swollen globules seek porous zones and help the system to control fluid loss by filling these larger pores or voids.

Magma Fiber- Magma Fiber is mineral fiber used in specific situations for heavy fluid loss. When added to the polymer, it clings to sidewalls and acts as a plug in porous soils to prevent fluid from escaping excavation area and provides increased sidewall stability. It is available as a coarse or fine grind.

SandSEAL- SandSEAL is a synthetically modified colloid in drat form, which functions with KB’s polymer systems to form a less permeable membrane on the sidewalls, preventing or reducing fluid loss into the formation. SandSEAL can also be used to moderately increase the density of the slurry.

HyrdroCUT- HydroCUT is designed for use with PolyCUT on hydromills, cutters, and reverse circulation applications. HydroCUT is added to the system to keep clay and shale from gumming-up or encasing the cutting face of any type of milling equipment. HydroCUT achieves this by wrapping the metal surfaces of the drums and teeth with a non-stick coating or film. By keeping the wheels and teeth clean, higher production rates are realized. HydroCUT also penetrates porous soils where it functions as a chemical grout, greatly increasing the strength of low cohesion soils.

Testing Equipment

Testing Equipment

KB International can provide everything you need for on-site slurry testing. See the list of equipment available below and contact us if you have questions about these or any other testing items.

Venturi Mixer:

With the KB Venturi Mixer, water passes through a venturi throat which creates suction and draws the polymer from the funnel. To help with the addition, the mixer has a secondary water supply that flushes the polymer from the funnel into the venturi throat, preventing clumping inside the mixer. This, combined with the venturi, ensures complete and uniform mixing.

Down Hole Slurry Sampler:

KB’s unique Down Hole Slurry Sampler allows for precision slurry sampling at any point in the excavation. The innovative design grabs a sample at the desired depth and locks the slurry into the canister, not allowing it to mix with slurry at any other level of the excavation. Precision sampling is very important in order to check and maintain proper viscosity, pH, specific gravity, and sand content.

Portable Slurry Lab:

This portable slurry lab is designed for measuring slurry properties in the field. It allows laboratory -quality measurements of viscosity, specific gravity/density, pH, and sand content. It includes the following:

  • Sand Content Kit
The Sand Content Kit allows you to determine the volume percent of sand-sized particles in drilling fluid. The kit contains the following: 500 ml wash bottle, 200 mesh sand screen, plastic funnel, and graduated glass sand tube. (May be purchased separately).
  • pH Strips
KB offers non-bleeding, multi-color pH strips that meet all testing guidelines. They have a range from 0-14 with a 1.0 pH unit. These strips can be used in most conditions but are not reliable in salt water and some very dark contaminated water.
  • Marsh Funnel
The Marsh Funnel allows you to determine the viscosity of the slurry at any point in the excavation. It includes the graduated funnel, graduated test cup, and stop watch.
  • Mud Balance
The Mud balance is a 4-scale balance designed to measure the slurry specific gravity or weight at any point in the excavation. It allows you to determine the amount of solids in suspension and adjust the slurry characteristics as needed.
  • Carrying Case
All of the components of the Portable Slurry Lab are contained in a high-density plastic carrying case. Each component  is held securely in place by foam inserts. The case ensures that components are protected from minor impacts and can be stored together for long-term use.
